Imagine waking up one day, turning on your PC, and realizing… Microsoft has abandoned you. No updates, no security patches—just you, your aging Windows 10, and a growing army of cyber threats lurking in the dark corners of the internet.

Sounds dramatic? Well, it’s happening.

Windows 10, the operating system that powered over a billion devices, is reaching its expiration date. Microsoft is pulling the plug, and October 14, 2025, is the day it all ends. After that, no more updates, no more fixes—just a slow march toward obsolescence.

Still thinking, “No big deal, I’ll keep using it”? Think again. Outdated software is a hacker’s dream. Without security updates, your personal data becomes an all-you-can-eat buffet for cybercriminals. Phishing attacks, ransomware, and malware—these threats won’t just knock on your door; they’ll kick it down.

And if you’re expecting Microsoft to change its mind, don’t hold your breath. They want you on Windows 11. But here’s the kicker—not all Windows 10 machines can even upgrade. If your PC is old, Microsoft’s message is clear: Buy a new one.

So, what are your options? Pay for extended security updates? Upgrade to Windows 11? Jump ship to Linux? Or take the ultimate risk—stick with Windows 10 and hope for the best?

The clock is ticking. What’s your move?

Have you ever considered quality refurbished machines at computeremporium.co.za.
At The Computer Emporium we appreciate and understand that people may feel intimidated when asked as to “why they need a computer” relating to the purpose of use? This question may come across in the wrong tone, so we rather say “yes these are refurbished computer systems we are selling at a fraction of the cost of new ones, we however need to make sure that they will meet your desired objectives which applies even if they were brand new. Just like cars with different capacities some are more suitable for different terrains, driving speeds, loads or long distance driving.

E.g. Depending on the type processor, memory combination and type of Hard Disk drive on a computer, it may or may not be suitable for certain tasks or run certain or different kinds of software.
If you are simply looking to run Microsoft Office Applications like outlook/email/ excel/Power Point/Publisher etc., then a basic Celeron or core 2 duo processing computer is fine.

On the other hand, if you an Engineer, Graphic designer or Architect, then the AutoCAD, ArtiCAD, CorelDraw and Quake software relative to those environments is far more resource demanding for a Celeron or Core 2 Duo processing computer. In this case we should look at the “i Series range of multitasking processors namely from the different generations of Intel Core i3/i5 or i7” processing computers to avoid disappointment in the performance of your computer and to accommodate these tasks. People in these fields may also need computers with high specked graphic cards in addition to multiple display outputs. Likewise, a similar trail of prescription applies to Computer Gamers as modern computer Games like “Fortnite” are highly resource demanding.

When searching for a used computer on the net you are also paused by the term “refurbished”. You may now wonder what a “refurbished computer” is.
The difference between used and refurbished computers is that refurbished units are passed through various rigorous tests to ensure specific working conditions. In fact, the test parameters will be set to factory settings and the used computer should pass this test to be called a refurbished computer. As the test conditions are set to factory defaults, these refurbished computers and laptops will be near the quality of the new ones. The warranty coverage is another difference between the refurbished computers. The suppliers of the refurbished computers will offer a warranty as in the new computers. In the case of used computers, there will be no warranty. They may even fail as soon as you plug the computer into your home. The warranty coverage option of the refurbished computers makes them the first choice if you are a computer novice.

As a refurbished computer supplier we can assemble a computer for you based on your budget. The used computer sellers are often not bound by the law and so you cannot get your money back from the suppliers or a warranty on latent defects. On the other hand, the refurbished computers are sold with proper billing and registration. In case of any manufacturer defects, you can always return the refurbished computer back to the supplier. Obviously, if you are looking for a used computer that nears the quality of the new ones and comes up with attractive warranties, the refurbished computers are made for you.

The topic of the difference between a Used and a Refurbished Computer item is not an easy one to tackle. Many people get confused with the definition as both are previously owned. Defining and understanding both will give you as the customer the knowledge and freedom to make the right choice when it comes to buying previously owned computer items.

What is a Refurbished Computer item?
⦁ A refurbished item is a pre-owned product that’s been evaluated, cleaned, repaired, upgraded (in some cases), and then resold.
⦁ These products also have their data wiped and drives restored to the factory settings for computers and mobile devices.
⦁ refurbished products go through the same testing process as new devices do.
⦁ Refurbished items generally come with a warranty, just like a new product from the same m
What is a Used Computer item?
⦁ Used goods, also known as second-hand or pre-owned goods, are products that another person has bought, used, and sold.
⦁ Used Computer Items don’t Come with a Warranty
⦁ Used computer items don’t get thoroughly checked before being resold

What Do Certified Refurbishers do to make sure the items are in good condition
⦁ Take a good hard look at the machine. Verify it’s what it’s supposed to be and its specs. (Especially memory and hard drive size).
⦁ Test the unit, scrub the hard drive, and reload Windows.
⦁ Replace any exterior parts that show wear and tear
